3 Simple Tips for Finding a Green Graphic Designer

It’s a new year and you’ve got some big goals for 2020. You have an awesome design project in mind and you have no idea where to start. Going from idea to execution can be a daunting task, but, as we all know, if you’re working with the right team of people, it can be much easier and (dare I say it) even a little fun.

Finding the right people to work with is often the most difficult piece of the puzzle. How do you know if it’s going to be a good working relationship? How do you know if they’re reliable?

But, most of all, if you’re working on a cause, how do you know their values align with yours? For projects focusing on conservation, the environment, the outdoors, wildlife, etc., it’s going to take a special person with the compassion and experience to help you with your cause.

Here are three tips for finding an eco-friendly graphic designer:

  1. Use directories from reputable sources to search for a designer who meets your needs. A couple of good ones are:

  2. Ask for a referral from a brand, non-profit or conservation group related to your field of focus. Chances are, they will know a qualified graphic designer that can help with your project. A lot of my clients come from referrals from my non-profit clients. These new clients are often relieved to have a designer who’s already familiar with helping causes and can offer guidance and suggestions on how to create effective design pieces.

  3. If you volunteer with groups related to your cause or field of focus, there’s a good chance there’s another volunteer within the organization that has a skill set that may be valuable to your project.

Liking a designer’s portfolio and style is a great starting point, but it’s important to get a feel for their work ethic and process before diving in. When you’re interviewing a designer, don’t be afraid to ask questions about their credentials, experience and personal connection to your cause, non-profit or brand.

Have a wonderful 2020!
